The Strassburg Sock: A simple solution for a complex problem

Plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis are common problems among runners and people who stand on their feet for long periods of time. Not so common is a solution. Stress on the connective tissues of the feet and lower legs, especially the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon, can cause pain that is not easily resolved.

Overstretching or overuse of these connective tissues can cause microscopic tears and inflammation. Cold therapy, anti-inflammatories, and steroid shots can help with the symptoms, but often do not solve the underlying problem.

Rest can allow the damaged tissue to heal. However, the natural sleep position is with the feet slightly plantarflexed (pointing downward). This causes the tissues heal in a shortened position. The result? Pain first thing in the morning, when the tissues are stretched and often reinjured.

The Strassburg Sock addresses this problem by holding the foot in a dorsiflexed position (pointing upward) during sleep or rest. This allows the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia to heal in a slightly stretched position. This reduces the likelihood of reinjury when activity is resumed.
